Caritas Dance School, initially called Caritas Ballet, has a distinguished history as a pioneering institution in Indonesia’s ballet scene. Founded in 1976 by Sunny T. Sistyawati-Pranata, the school dedicated itself to classical ballet instruction. Its core teaching philosophy is based on the Russian Vaganova method, a rigorous and expressive ballet technique that emphasizes seamless transitions, precise movements, and musicality.
In 1985, Caritas Ballet made significant strides in professionalizing ballet teaching in Indonesia by becoming a founding member of the Ikatan Pengajar & Pelatih Ballet (IPPB), also known as the Ballet Teachers & Instructors Association. This move underscored its commitment to the advancement of ballet education and teacher collaboration in the region.
Further extending its international credentials, in 2008, Caritas Ballet aligned itself with Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD), becoming a member and integrating its globally recognized syllabus. This affiliation has enriched the school’s curriculum, incorporated modern pedagogical approaches and expanded opportunities for students to achieve accredited qualifications recognized both locally and abroad.
Caritas Dance School continues to uphold its legacy through dedicated ballet training while also expanding into other dance forms, including Hip-Hop, K-Pop, Contemporary, and Traditional dance. Through this diverse program, the school nurtures both technical excellence and artistic expression in its students. In 2026, Caritas further strengthened its commitment to the global dance community by becoming a member of the International Dance Council (CID), contributing to the development of dance artistry in Indonesia and internationally. Our commitment to nurturing children and young dancers extends beyond the studio. As an institutional member of daCi (Dance and the Child International), we actively support global standards in dance education that prioritize creativity, inclusion, and the well-being of every child.
Students regularly participate in annual stage performances, graded examinations (including ATOD), workshops, competitions, and collaborative productions that enrich their experience as dancers and performers.
